Markha Valley Trek Tour – 9 Nights / 10 Days

Arrive at Leh Airport, meet the local representative and transfer to your hotel. Because Leh sits at high altitude, keep the first day deliberately relaxed, hydrate well and avoid strenuous activity while your body begins acclimatising. In the evening, attend the trek briefing and equipment check if scheduled. Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.

Spend a second day acclimatising in Leh before the trek. After breakfast, enjoy only light sightseeing according to the groupu2019s fitness, with options such as Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, the local market or selected monasteries. After breakfast, drive from Leh toward Zingchen, the trailhead for the classic Markha Valley approach. Begin trekking through the arid valley and gradually gain altitude toward the Ganda La base area, passing mountain streams and rugged Ladakhi terrain. Settle into the campsite, enjoy an early dinner and rest in preparation for the high-pass crossing. Overnight in trek camp.

Start early and climb steadily toward Ganda La, a high mountain pass offering expansive views across the Ladakh and Zanskar landscapes when the weather is clear. After time at the pass, descend carefully toward Shingo through a dramatic high-altitude valley. Reach camp by afternoon or evening, enjoy a hot meal and rest after one of the treku2019s demanding pass days. Overnight in trek camp.

After breakfast, continue through the Markha Valley system along a mix of rocky trails, river sections and open high-desert scenery. Pass small settlements, mani walls and traditional Ladakhi landscapes as the route gradually leads toward the Sara camping area. Arrive by afternoon, relax beside the valley and stay overnight in camp.

Trek deeper into the valley after breakfast, following the Markha River through changing scenery of barren cliffs, green fields and remote settlements. River crossings may be required depending on the current trail and water level. Reach Markha, the valleyu2019s best-known village, with time to explore the village atmosphere and monastery area before dinner and an overnight stay in camp or simple homestay.

Leave Markha after breakfast and continue upstream toward the higher reaches of the valley. Pass Umlung and the Hankar area, where ruined fortifications and traditional village scenery contrast with the increasingly wild mountain landscape. Kang Yatse becomes a dominant presence ahead as you continue toward Thachungtse. Set up camp and spend the night beneath the high peaks.

After breakfast, climb steadily toward the broad high-altitude pasture of Nimaling. The walking distance is shorter than some previous days, but the altitude gain is significant, so the group proceeds at a controlled pace. Reach Nimaling with magnificent views of Kang Yatse and the surrounding ranges, then spend the afternoon resting and acclimatising before dinner and an overnight camp.

Begin early for the treku2019s biggest day, climbing from Nimaling toward Kongmaru La, the highest point of the route at roughly 5,150u20135,200 metres depending on the trail reference. Enjoy panoramic views from the pass when conditions allow, then descend steeply through the colourful Shang Gorge toward Shang Sumdo. Meet the vehicle at the roadhead and drive back to Leh for a comfortable hotel stay and trek-completion evening.
